Update: Fowler Creek Park Master Planning
Like
many of you, Friends of Fowler Creek Park is
eager to hear the latest updates on the progress of the development of Fowler Creek Park. You may have heard at the last community meeting
that the master plan was to be submitted to the Parks
and Recreation Commission.
Earlier
this month, we learned from Todd Capurso,
Parks Manager, Neighborhood Parks Division,
City of San Jose that the master plan has not been submitted to the Parks and Recreation
Commission yet. The delay is due to the land
swap with Shapell Industries of Northern California
as mentioned during the last community meeting. This
land swap requires that a new set of environmental reports to be drawn up. It is estimated that the reports will take up to 6
months to complete. Therefore, the final
submission of the plan is not expected to happen until the end of this year. Todd estimates that once the plan is submitted and
approved by both the Parks and Recreation Commission and the City of San Jose City
Council, the progress to kick-off Phase One
of the construction will be relatively quick.
On
the city budget concerns, Todd foresees that if the city budget crisis persists, the
effect will be on the delay of construction for the more expensive amenities to Phase Two
of the construction plan. A delay to start
Phase One of the construction of the park should not be expected. Todd is also optimistic as he has seen District 8
Councilmember David Cortese hard at work in obtaining additional funds for the development
of the park from various developers.
We
will continue to update you when as we learn more. In
the meantime, please continue to forward your questions to us at info@fcpfriends.org.
