Project Update:  Master Plan Goes to City Council,
Tuesday, October 21, 2003, 1:30pm (Regular Session)

The Fowler Creek Park Master Plan was approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission last month on September 17th.  This approval represented a positive recommendation from the commission to the San Jose City Council to adopt and approve the Master Plan.

The Master Plan is scheduled to be heard next week at the San Jose City Council Meeting, on Tuesday, October 21st, during their Regular Session (which starts at 1:30pm) in City Hall Council Chambers.   This meeting is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend to show their support or to speak on this topic (2 minutes maximum per speaker).

For all the details, please refer to the 10/21/03 City Council Meeting Agenda (click here) and see Agenda Item 5.2:  “Approval of the Fowler Creek Park Master Plan Update”.

TOMORROW!  Day in the Park 2003,
Saturday, October 18, 2003, 10:00am-4:00pm

Please plan to attend this huge fun annual event!  Councilmember Dave Cortese is once again presenting Day in the Park, A Multicultural Festival, at Lake Cunningham.   This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2003 from 10am to 4pm.  Please look for our table under Canopy 4, right next to the Main Stage—we hope to see you there!  For more information, please see the official web site of Day in the Park 2003 (click here).

Friends of Fowler Creek Park Granted Tax-Exemption Status

Friends of Fowler Creek Park has recently been granted legal non-profit status by both the State of California Franchise Tax Board, under Revenue and Taxation Code 23701d, and the Internal Revenue Service, under Federal Tax Code Section 501(c)(3), as a public-benefit charitable organization.  By law, we are now filing our application to join the Registry of Charitable Trusts with the State Attorney General’s Office.

This is an important milestone for us as it opens the door for us to apply for certain grants that require legal non-profit status in order to benefit Fowler Creek Park and any other Evergreen Hills community programs that we may sponsor in the future.  We wish to express our gratitude to Resources for Families and Communities of Santa Clara County for their significant assistance with the arduous applications and legal paperwork.
