Fowler
Creek Park Project Manager Promoted, Moves On
This
news is a bit late to press, but in mid-September, Todd Capurso was promoted to Landscape
Maintenance Manager in the Parks Maintenance Division of the General Services Department. For those of you who attended any of the community
meetings about the Fowler Creek Park Master Plan, you will know that Todd Capurso has been
the principal leader on this development project. As a former Parks Manager in the Parks,
Recreation, and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) Department, Todd has been managing the Fowler
Creek Park Master Plan Update project since 1999, although the community process did not
begin until 2002.
One
of Todd's most invaluable contributions to the project was his carefully choreographed
process of working directly with the community. In
cooperation with Councilmember Cortese's office, he held multiple meetings and workshops
to filter the myriad of public "wish list" design elements for the park down to
a single coherent plan that was favored by an overwhelming majority of the residents. Although he had already transitioned into his new
job, Todd continued to shepherd the Fowler Creek Master Plan through the City Council
approval phase.
We
asked Todd recently about what kind of role he will play with regard to Fowler Creek Park
in his new position. Todd said: "I will continue to be an advocate for the park and
assist whenever and wherever I can. However,
my new role will be to help get the approriate level of maintenance funded for the park so
that it will continue to be an asset to the community for many years after its
construction."
"The
Fowler Creek Park master plan process, although quite animated at times, is probably the
most successful and enjoyable community process that I have ever participated in. I believe that the process used to develop the
master plan for this park should be a model for other projects across the City. The final master plan is a very detailed plan that
accurately meets the recreational needs of the community.
While everyone is our community should be proud of this park, those that
participated in the process should feel an even stronger sense of pride. The process really does work."
Todd
and his family also live in the Fowler Creek Park community in Evergreen Hills, so you
will continue to see around the community. We would like to thank Todd for sheparding this
project from developing the inital design concepts to taking the Master Plan to City
Council. Todd has made a significant
contribution to improving our community, and we wish him all the best in his new position.
Community
Safety Tip: Report Street Light Outages
One
of our active community members recently asked us for assistance in reminding our
residents how to report non-functioning street lights in the community. Properly functioning street lights play an
important role in maintaining safety in our community at night. Areas with persistent street light outages are
prone to the types of criminal activity that we want to completely eliminate in our
neighborhoods. Please do your part by
reporting any broken street lights. Its
easy...heres how...
If
a street light is not functioning, please call the street light repair recorder at (408) 277-5517 (24 hours) with the
following information: (1) The name of the street the pole is on and the nearest cross
street; (2) Street address of the property that the pole fronts; (3) The street light
number (e.g. 12L231).
For
more information about street and traffic issues and community safety, please refer to the
City of San Jose Neighborhood Trouble Shooter guide at http://www.ci.san-jose.ca.us/prns/ts.htm.
